WHAT IS BASE CAMP?

Base Camp Coding Academy (BCCA) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization with the intention to create a pipeline for under-advantaged individuals in Mississippi to access careers in software development by offering an immersive, hands-on, and fast-paced program designed to transform passionate individuals into job-ready software engineers.

Since 2016, the business community has embraced our alternate education path as a viable new source of talent, and the accomplishments of the Base Camp alumni network has created a social shift in the public schools towards careers in tech. We are extremely proud that 95% of our graduates receive employment after graduation from various software development industries in our region.

What sets us apart?

In the year-long program, students work with real world technologies to learn the fundamentals of coding, app development, project management, and the life leadership skills they will need to be successful in their career and competitive in the software development job market upon graduation. The curriculum is fast paced, focused, and aligned to the needs of employers in the modern technology environment. Currently, our technical curriculum covers Python, Django, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Java, SQL (PostgreSQL), Spring, and more while using editors such as Visual Studio Code, IntelliJ, and PgAdmin.

CAREER-READY TRAINING

Our curriculum is always evolving to keep you ahead of the game. In a small, hands-on classroom, students will master coding, app development, project management, and leadership skills.

We don’t stop at coding! We prep our students for success with interview coaching, resume workshops, and direct connections to hiring companies. Every graduate also earns a nationally recognized credential from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Apprenticeship USA.

TUITION-FREE

Our students contribute all they have: time, hard work, and dedication. Base Camp provides the rest, ensuring social and economic barriers do not prevent our best and brightest from joining the future tech workforce of Mississippi.

Every student accepted into Base Camp Coding Academy receives a 100% scholarship, thanks to the generous support of our business and philanthropic partners.

A GROWING LEGACY

As of 2024, Base Camp has graduated seven classes of recent high school graduates, two classes of adults, and hosted 50+ current high school junior and senior females through our annual, two-day Pioneer Program.

Our growing network of 130+ graduates have launched their careers at top companies like CoreLogic, ADSi, C Spire, FedEx, Trustmark Bank, Tallahatchie Valley Electric Power Association, and many more!

Not only are our programs completely tuition free, but we also provide numerous incredible benefits, including the ability to earn college credits, work-friendly class schedules, complementary on-site childcare, and no-cost loaner laptops.
